The SSI Open Water Diver course is designed for beginners and follows a progressive, performance-based approach. You train at a comfortable pace with certified SSI instructors in a safe environment, focusing on skill mastery and confidence underwater.

The SSI Open Water Diver program requires students to complete a water fitness evaluation before beginning open water training. This evaluation establishes a baseline level of comfort in the water and includes:
Swim assessment
Survival float
To begin the SSI Open Water Diver training, students must create a MySSI profile. This can be done through the SSI website or by downloading the MySSI App on iOS or Android.
The MySSI App gives you easy access to your Open Water training materials, logbook, and digital certification cards, all securely stored in one place and available online or offline.
You will need a mask, snorkel, and fins. If you don’t have your own equipment, rental gear is available for the course, so you’ll have everything you need to enjoy a great diving experience.
The SSI Open Water Diver course is typically completed in 2 to 3 days. It includes two half-days in confined water (pool or pool-like conditions) to develop skills, followed by two half-days of open water dives to apply those skills in real diving conditions.
For the SSI Open Water Diver program, each student must complete the required SSI training forms before participating in any training activities. For minors, these forms must be reviewed and signed by a parent or legal guardian.

Diver Medical Statement & Questionnaire (and Physician’s Approval if required)
Training Assumption of Risk, Liability Release, and Hold Harmless Agreement (where applicable)
