The SSI Divemaster program is the first step toward turning your passion for diving into a professional path. Through advanced training and real-world experience, you will develop leadership skills, gain the respect of your dive peers, and become an ambassador for diving by guiding certified divers and supporting dive activities. Upon successful completion, you will earn your SSI Dive Guide certification, opening the door to professional opportunities and the next steps toward becoming an SSI Divemaster or Instructor.
The SSI Divemaster program is designed for experienced divers who want to take the first step into the professional diving world. Following SSI professional standards, you develop leadership, dive management, and guiding skills under the mentorship of certified SSI instructors, gaining the confidence and experience needed to become a respected dive professional and ambassador for the underwater world.
Training follows SSI professional standards and combines theoretical knowledge, practical workshops, and extensive open water experience. Under the supervision of SSI instructors, you will assist with dive activities, guide certified divers, and develop real-world leadership skills through structured briefings and in-water scenarios, progressing at a professional pace in real diving conditions.
You will develop professional-level diving and leadership skills, including dive planning, group supervision, risk management, navigation, and guiding certified divers, all under the mentorship of SSI professionals.
Upon completion, you will earn the SSI Dive Guide certification, marking your entry into the professional diving pathway and opening the door to the Divemaster upgrade and instructor-level training.

Certification: SSI Open Water Diver and required specialty certifications (Deep Diving, Navigation, Night & Limited Visibility, and Diver Stress & Rescue) or equivalent experience as defined by SSI
Experience: Minimum 40 logged/verified dives to start the program
Medical clearance: Completed Diver Medical Questionnaire (and physician approval if required)
Fitness: Strong swimming ability and excellent in-water comfort
Documentation: Valid MySSI profile and completed SSI professional training forms
To begin the SSI Divemaster program, candidates must have an active MySSI profile, which can be created via the SSI website or the MySSI App on iOS or Android.
The MySSI App provides access to your professional training materials, digital logbook, and certification cards, all securely stored in one place and available online or offline.
For the SSI Divemaster program, candidates must have complete scuba diving equipment, including mandatory audible and visual signaling devices.
While rental equipment is available, it is strongly recommended that Divemaster candidates use their own personal gear. As dive professionals, Divemasters are expected to be exemplary in their equipment configuration, maintenance, and diving practices, setting the standard for safety and professionalism at all times.
The SSI Divemaster program has no fixed duration. The training is performance-based and continues for the time necessary to master all required skills, knowledge, and professional-level competencies. Progress is based on demonstrated proficiency and experience in real diving conditions under the supervision of SSI professionals.
For the SSI Divemaster program, each candidate must complete all required SSI professional training forms before participating in any training or in-water activities.
